Michele Farinha, ‘zzoppy’ is a self taught Trinidadian artist whose pencil art depicts authentic heritage buildings of the 19th and 20th century in Trinidad. Suburban houses styled with large eaves, jalousies, finials and highly decorative fretwork display a level of artisanship that is captured in detail by the artist. Her artwork seeks to cultivate pride and touch the soul of the Trinbagonian diaspora and locals alike, to encourage identity and belonging.

Michel Jean Cazabon (1813-1888) is often celebrated as Trinidad and Tobago’s first great painter and a pioneer in Caribbean art. Born in Trinidad, he studied in England and France, where he honed his skills and developed a style influenced by European Romanticism. Cazabon is best known for his vivid watercolor landscapes and depictions of 19th-century Trinidad, capturing the natural beauty, colonial architecture, and daily life of the island. His works provide an invaluable historical glimpse into the Caribbean’s past, combining artistic talent with a unique perspective on local culture and environment.
